SmartVA-Analyze 2.1 now available for download

We are pleased to announce the release of SmartVA-Analyze 2.1, developed in partnership with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).

SmartVA-Analyze is an automated verbal autopsy (VA) software that enables greater accuracy and efficiency than paper-based approaches. Utilising tablet and smartphone technology, it automatically analyses VA data to generate probable causes of death at both individual and population levels using the Tariff 2.0 algorithm.

The SmartVA-Analyze application was designed and validated as part of the Population Health Metrics Research Consortium (PHMRC) Gold Standard VA Validation Study, through which the Gold Standard VA database was created.

Version 2.1.0 includes minor changes to reduce the fraction of child deaths that are assigned an undetermined cause, including:

  • Reducing the threshold for child undetermined causes of death
  • Removing the majority of child sepsis spurious symptoms
  • Amending the child homicide rule so that an additional condition is reporting when the decedent was a victim of violence
