What is CRVS and why does every country need it?

CRVS characteristics

Fully functional CRVS systems have important characteristics that make them more useful than other approaches for generating fertility and mortality data. 

These characteristics can be summarised as the ‘six Cs’. Statistics from civil registration systems are:

  • Continuous
  • Consistent
  • Comparable
  • Complete
  • Correct (or reliable)

 and include

  • Cause of death.
